What goes into a home simulator
Six parts. The launch monitor decides most of the others: where it sits sets the room you need, and its software decides whether you need a gaming PC.
- Launch monitor$500–26,000
Measures the ball (and often the club) and sends the shot to the software. The biggest choice: radar behind you, camera beside the ball or a unit in the ceiling.
- Software$0–1,200 a year
Courses, driving range and games. Some launch monitors lock you into the maker's own software.
- Computer$0–3,000
An iPad is enough for some setups. GSPro, Trackman and Uneekor need a Windows gaming PC.
- Projector$900–6,000
A short-throw projector mounted above or behind you, so you do not cast a shadow on the screen.
- Screen and enclosure$300–6,000
An impact screen you hit into, with netting or padding to stop stray shots.
- Hitting mat$200–1,500
The part your joints feel. A good mat lets the club slide like on turf.
